CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: NEW EMPLOYMENT REGULATIONS 31stJULY 2020

As of today, new regulations come into force which will ensure that various statutory entitlements which are based on a week’s pay and relate to termination of employment are not reduced because of an employee being furloughed.

These entitlements include redundancy pay, notice pay and compensation for unfair dismissal.

Fundamentally, this means that if an employer makes a furloughed employee redundant, they will have to calculate statutory redundancy pay and statutory notice pay based on the employee’s normal pay and not their reduced furlough pay.
